The 2024 Bunbury Storms

In May and June 2024, the City of Bunbury was impacted by two severe storm events that caused significant damage across multiple suburbs. On 10 May, a tornado developed within a severe thunderstorm and tracked through South Bunbury, Withers and College Grove, damaging 220 homes and several non-residential properties in less than ten minutes. Just three weeks later, on 1-2 June, a second severe storm impacted East Bunbury (Koombana Bay), Glen Iris and Picton, affecting a further 221 properties.

Combined, these events damaged more than 440 residential and non-residential properties, displaced residents, and disrupted local businesses. The storms scattered debris across impacted areas, flattened trees, and created hazardous conditions.

A range of financial support programs and services were made available to assist homeowners, tenants, small businesses and organisations with their recovery. Together with the resilience of impacted residents and the dedicated efforts of local businesses, these support measures helped the community make substantial progress in rebuilding and returning to normal life.

This page remains as a record of the support that was provided during the recovery period.
