The Kimberley Floods State Recovery and Resilience Plan sets the course for government-funded flood recovery initiatives ensuring impacted individuals, communities, local governments, businesses and industries have the right support when they need it.

From Floods to Futures
A concerted effort to engage local businesses during the recovery from the 2023 Kimberley Floods has unlocked a new era of economic opportunity in the region. One of the main objectives during the flood recovery has been to 'build back better' – not only hiring locals for reconstruction projects but also ensuring those jobs lead to long-term employment. The Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service; Derby Aboriginal Health Service Council; Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services; and Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre are jointly provided wellbeing support as part of the Fitzroy Valley flood recovery. If you’re impacted by the floods, not feeling good and want to feel stronger about yourself, there is support available.

State Recovery Plan

The Wooroloo Bushfire State Recovery Plan was implemented to deliver coordinated and appropriate programs to support the structural, economic, environmental and social recovery needs.

The plan also outlines the State-level framework that was established to support local governments and the community with their recovery.

If you are a homeowner whose property has been damaged or destroyed by flooding associated with Ex TC Ellie you may be eligible for a grant of up to $50,000 to help you undertake repair and rebuild works.

The Recovery and Resilience Grants Program offers two types of grants, up to a total of $50,000. The Recovery Grant can help with clean-up and repair works, and the Resilience Grant can help you build back better against future floods.

Grants of up to $75,000 are available to assist pastoralists with out-of-pocket clean-up and reinstatement costs incurred as a direct result of the flooding associated with Ex TC Ellie. The grant covers activities such as the removal and disposal of debris, damaged infrastructure and equipment, deceased livestock; salvaging crops; and repairing damaged infrastructure and equipment.

On 13 August 2021 the State Government announced an independent review into the Wooroloo Bushfire. Submissions were open from 20 August 2021 to 8 October 2021 and have now closed.  The review was released in March 2022.
